Springfield,
Missouri was part of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. The actual founder of
Springfield was John Polk Campbell.
In 1858, the
Butterfield-Overland stage began providing transportation services in
Springfield.
During the Civil
War, General Marmaduke captured the town; this became known as the Battle of
Springfield.
The Wild West began
in 1865 with Springfield’s first shoot out involving Wild Bill Hickok and Dave
Tutt.
Route 66 was laid
during 1926.
